Assin North Senior High Technical School will miss out in this year's special Super Zonal Championship for the first time. After the long break in sporting activities in the country due to COVID 19, all is set for the cherished super zonal athletics championship but the champions of Zone 5 may miss out for reasons not well known.

The two days events will start on the  Thursday, 6th July 2023 and climax on the Friday, 7th July, 2023. Athletic teams from the seventy-eight (78) schools in the region, put into six (6) zones who qualify will be represented at the championship flying their school flags and banners high for honour and glory.

Zone 5 Overall Champions, Assin North Senior High Technical School, who topped the table at the just ended Zone 5 Athletics Championship which was organised at Assin Manso SHS on the 15th & 16th June, 2023.

Information gathered by speaking to some of the champions of Zone 5 suggests that these young talents will not have the chance to compete against the champions from the other five zones in the region due to reasons not clear to these energetic young stars. Speaking to the team, some mentioned that the school authorities says there was no money to help them attend to the competition.

The likes of ATSU SHITOR, RAMSEY ANNAN, PRINCE TWUMASI and GODFRED ANTWI  will all miss out in the sprints. Also, In the girls' division,  OLIVIA FENYI will also miss out of the 100m heat.

Just imagine the many days of hard work of preparation for the championship only to be asked not to attend. What about the loss of talents to the Region and Ghana Athletics Federation because of no show.

Our team of reporters are making frantic efforts to know the actual issue and reasons behind the possible failure of the school to participate in this all important competition.   Stay tuned.
